Transport Minister Mike Henry has ordered a full investigation into the circumstances that caused runway lights at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston to malfunction on Wednesday.

Henry has also directed that Chairman of the Airports Authority of Jamaica William Shagoury and Chairman of NMIA Neil Seaton report back to him in the shortest possible time.

As a result of the malfunctioning lights, several flights had to be cancelled or rescheduled.

Several passengers were also inconvenienced after a JetBlue flight had to be diverted to the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James.

In a statement yesterday, the transport minister said there is no room for error and warned that the country’s enviable aviation record should never be compromised.

He says operations at the nation’s airports must be flawless in light of the government’s decision to pursue an open skies policy.
