Audley Gordon has been appointed executive director of the National Solid Waste Management Authority.

Audley Gordon has been appointed executive director for the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA).

The appointment took effect yesterday.

Gordon had been serving as the chief technical officer at the NSWMA.

The board of the authority says he comes to the position with a mix of pragmatic and appropriate managerial training and exposure that the board believes will serve the agency well.

“The directors were unanimous in appointing Gordon to oversee the day-to-day management functions of the authority,” said NSWMA board chairman Dennis Chung.

He said while being interviewed for the post, Gordon had convincingly articulated a clear vision for the transformation of the NSWMA.

Chung says Gordon has detailed a plan for the NSWMA to effectively play its role as regulators of the solid waste management sector and ensure the safeguarding of public health.

Additionally, he will begin the process of having sanitary landfill in Jamaica that meets international standards.

The NSWMA says Gordon’s appointment is the first step in strengthening the management capacity of the organisation, as it seeks to transform the organisation into one that every Jamaican can be proud of.
