Police in Bethel Town, Westmoreland say they have not yet established a motive for the murder of 33-year-old Dwayne Gause who was shot last Friday night.

Gause otherwise known as Rabbit or Taliban was said to be mentally challenged.

His death brings to 17, the murder count in the community since the start of the year.

According to an eyewitness account, Gause was walking towards the Bethel Town square minutes to nine o'clock on Friday night when two men rode up on a motorbike and open fire at him.

He received three bullets to his head and died on the spot.

Some residents say Gause’s killing is a spill-over from an incident late last month where one man was shot and killed and several other persons injured at a grave-digging site in the nearby community of Castle Mountain.

Bethel Town has become a hotbed of violence in recent years as lottery scammers from Montego Bay regularly use the rural district to hide from other criminal elements and the police.

Bethel Town is less than 45 minutes drive from the western city.
