Sagicor Foundation Gives Treats This Christmas
Christmas is a time of joy, family, faith, hope and charity. However, it's easy to forget the true meaning of the holiday.
What better way to promote the core meaning of the holiday than by being charitable? This year, the Sagicor Foundation has a full roster of very exciting activities to be rolled out in time for the Christmas season.
In line with the organisation's vision, many of the activities for the holidays will centre on community outreach and development.
The foundation will host an Adopt-A-School Christmas Treat. In May 2016, the Sagicor Foundation adopted and refurbished nine basic schools islandwide. Since inception, more than 400 students have benefited from enhanced learning facilities and a visit by the mobile health bus and Sagicor medical teams in preparation for back to school.
"This year's Christmas treat was planned in tandem with our Sagicor team captains who are members of our Sagicor Volunteer Programme, which comprises volunteers from our branches across the island. Each school will be treated with their own pop-up Christmas party outfitted with Santa Claus loaded with gifts and special treats," said Nadine Newsome, public relations and corporate social responsibility manager at Sagicor Group.
In December, the Sagicor Foundation will begin the first of three handovers to the Sigma Run 2016 beneficiaries, starting with the construction of a parent's overnight suite for the paediatric ward at the Black River Hospital.
"The room will provide the necessary function of allowing young mothers a private area for nursing their newborn infants - those that are sick and have to remain in the intensive care unit. The hospital will be retrofitted with a number of new signs as well as a new blood gas machine for the paediatric unit," Newsome said.
With initial plans for the Sigma Run 2017 starting as early as September, the Christmas season represents a critical stage in its momentum. With the Sigma Run 2017 launch date scheduled right around the corner - on January 10, 2017 - the foundation is currently mobilising resources to raise even more money.
"The Christmas holidays represent a very busy time for Sagicor Foundation. However, it remains especially rewarding as the words in our tagline - 'Caring, Inspiring, Serving' - are palpable in our positive impact felt throughout the season," Newsome said.
