No room for partisan politics - Vaz warns Portland councillors

The Member of Parliament for west Portland Daryl Vaz has warned Councillors elected to the Portland Municipal Corporation that there is no room for partisan politics in the performance of their duties.

He reminded them that they will be held accountable by the people for their performance.

Vaz was speaking at the swearing-in ceremony for new Mayor of Port Antonio Paul Thompson and other councillors held in the parish yesterday.

He appealed to Jamaica Labour Party councillors who won control of the municipal corporation in last month’s local government elections that they should serve all residents in their respective divisions, regardless of political affiliation.

Member of Parliament for East Portland Dr Lynvale Bloomfield urged all councillors to honour the mandate given to them by working together to rebuild the image of the parish.

Bloomfield says this will lead to growth and job creation for residents.
