The National Water Commission (NWC) says it is currently working to restore a number of its pumping systems in St Ann and St Mary that have been disturbed by debris from the weekend's heavy rains in those parishes.

In St Mary, the NWC had to shut down the White River, Pleasant Hill, Rock Spring and Palmetto Grove systems due to turbidity.

Broken mains were also reported in Highgate, St Mary, and Eltham in St Ann and operational problems at the Bushy Park system in Clarendon.

Head of Corporate communications at the NWC, Charles Buchanan, told Independent Talk on Power 106 FM today that repairs are being done so affected communities can have water.

Buchanan also says the NWC will be making arrangements to restore water to some communities in downtown Kingston who have lost water since the agency started repairs at the intersection of North and East streets.

The repairs are being done to broken sewer mains.
