The magisterial recount for the Rae Town division in Kingston has ended with the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) taking the division by only one vote.

The result was announced a short while ago at the Sutton Street court house where the recount was taking place after pausing last evening when 11of 72 boxes had been counted.

At that time the People’s National Party (PNP) were reportedly ahead by one vote.

Last week, the JLP’s Rosalie Hamilton was declared the winner, polling 1,872 votes to defeat the PNP’s Shawn McGregor by 21 votes.

The People’s National Party thought it could overturn the deficit as more than 60 ballots had been rejected in the final count.

The JLP win means it holds on to its 21-19 majority in the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation.
