Key Bunting supporter Buchanan reinstated as PNP deputy general secretary
One of Peter Bunting’s key backers for the People’s National Party presidency, Luther Buchanan, is refusing to comment on Bunting’s decision not to run for the post.
Buchanan, who is the Eastern Westmoreland Member of Parliament, had taken leave of absence from the party secretariat to run Bunting’s campaign.
However, yesterday, Bunting announced that his consultations have revealed that Dr Peter Phillips enjoys the overwhelming support of Comrades at this time.
He said he would support Phillips.
Contacted by The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre this morning, Buchanan said he was reinstated as PNP deputy general secretary last night.
He insisted he did not want to discuss his feelings about Bunting’s move.
He explained that he had indicated that his leave of absence would last for the period of a presidential contest.
Buchanan says now that Bunting has withdrawn, there is no longer a contest and therefore he resumed his post.
He says he will support whoever the party selects as its new leader.
