Big announcement coming for tourism workers – Bartlett
Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett has indicated he’ll be making an important announcement today which should improve the lives of workers in the sector.
Speaking on Independent Talk on Power 106 FM this morning, Bartlett said the initiative to be announced was approved by the Cabinet on Monday.
He would not provide much detail, but said workers would be given greater social security.
Meanwhile, Bartlett says all the relevant areas of labour relations which go with long-term job opportunities must begin to apply to the industry.
He says this is because tourism is no longer a seasonal industry in Jamaica.
Bartlett says today is the last time that Jamaica will explicitly mark the start of the winter tourist season.
