MoBay street vendors to be registered for Christmas

Montego Bay’s mayor, Homer Davis, has announced that a registration system will be implemented next week for vendors to ply their trade along several streets during the Christmas period.

Davis made the announcement during a press conference at the St James Municipal Corporation building yesterday.

Davis says each registered and paid-up vendor and their assistants will be issued with an armband.

Meanwhile, Davis says he will seek to hold dialogue with street vendors to provide them with better locations to sell their goods in the new year.

He says the council will be looking to see what repairs can be done to the Charles Gordon Market.

The Municipal Corporation has long had to contend with vendors who defy the law and sell their goods on the streets and sidewalks of Montego Bay instead of in designated vending areas.

During the installation ceremony for his administration in the St James Municipal Corporation, on December 8, Davis had pledged to find better accommodations for them.
