Thirty-five tertiary graduates have successfully transitioned from interns to employees within the Sagicor Group. The internship programme, conceptualised with the aim of providing unemployed university graduates with valuable work experience, has enabled these trainees to make a seamless transition into the workforce.

The interns were charged with proposing innovative solutions to increase the company's revenue and to reduce expenses. President and Chief Executive Officer Richard Byles and other senior managers at the Sagicor Group were impressed with their performance and presentations.

"The rich component of the Sagicor Internship Programme is to arrive at the best solutions to maximise the leadership and entrepreneurial potential of the brilliant young minds participating in the programme," said Karl Williams, vice-president, group human resources at Sagicor.

Williams stated that the proposals will be discussed further with the executive leadership team with a view towards implementation.

Jhanel Williams, who this year completed her first degree in biochemistry, with a minor in management studies, and is currently assigned to Sagicor Group's marketing department, explained that her team had to conduct research to arrive at their final proposal.

"We researched a variety of Jamaica's businesses, their products and processes, in relation to international business offerings, to arrive at a proposal that does not exist in our country. We wanted to ensure that Sagicor strengthened the client experience by reducing processing time, as well as easing the burden on clients to visit a financial institution," Williams said.

The groups presented their ideas to the management team in an expo called the Intern Showcase, held at the Sagicor Life Auditorium.

Sagicor Group Jamaica is a financial services conglomerate. The group offers products and services in the areas of banking, insurance, investments, real estate, asset management and retirement planning. Sagicor Life Jamaica Limited is the leading life and health insurance provider in Jamaica.

The three-month annual Sagicor Internship Programme will end this month.
