Former Turks and Caicos Premier, Rufus Ewing, has resigned as leader of the Progressive National Party, following the loss of his own parliamentary seat and the party’s crushing defeat in the recent General Election.

Ewing says he accepts full responsibility for the party’s election loss adding that he did not expect the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) to win by such a large margin.

Following the PDM's win of last week's election, attorney Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson became  the country’s first female premier.
