The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has provided a grant of approximately US$430,000 under its Basic Needs Trust Fund to upgrade the 80-year-old Brown's Hall Primary School in St Catherine.

Brown's Hall Primary has not had any significant upgrades since its construction 1936.

The school currently has a population of 310 students and 13 teachers.

According to the CDB, the facility has been rendered unsuitable to deliver quality education because of the aged configurations of the existing buildings.

It says the upgrading works will include the rehabilitation of the three existing classroom blocks to facilitate 12 classrooms and the rehabilitation of the administrative area to house the principal’s office, staff room, guidance counselling room, sick bay and washroom facilities.

A new block containing a kitchen, washroom, and tuck shop is also be constructed as well as a new multipurpose court.

A new 304 metre perimeter fence is also to be erected.
