Mark Shields sees no natural successor to Commissioner Williams
Former Deputy Commissioner of Police Mark Shields says he sees no natural successor to outgoing Police Commissioner Dr Carl Williams of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
Following The Gleaner's breaking news story about the commissioner's impending retirement, Shields took to social media site Twitter, calling it a "setback for the JCF".
But the National Security Ministry says there are qualified and competent persons in the Police High Command who can lead at this time.
The ministry says the Police Service Commission will choose an appropriate person from the force to act for 90 days.
The Ministry also says it will be engaging the Commission to re-examine the terms of engagement for Commissioners of Police as the search begins for a suitable replacement within three months.
