One man is dead and another in hospital following a shoot-out near the Hunt’s Bay Police Station in St Andrew this afternoon.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ealan Powell, says shortly after 2 o’clock, a man was leaving the police station, where he had gone to report as part of his bail condition.

ACP Powell says two gunmen came up and opened fire hitting the man.

He says police personnel at the station heard the gunfire and responded.

According to Powell, a fire-fight ensued and one of the attackers was shot and weapons also seized.

Both men were taken to hospital where the gunman was pronounced dead and the other man admitted.

ACP Powell says a manhunt is on to find the accomplice who escaped.

He says the attack near the police station highlights the dangerous situation which faces police personnel.
