Money in circulation ahead of Christmas topped $100 billion – BOJ
The Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) is reporting that over $100 billion was in circulation just before Christmas.
According to the BOJ, as at December 23, $100.1 billion was in circulation.
The BOJ had projected that the currency stock would peak at $100.6 billion.
The $100.1 billion in circulation as at December 23 was a 15.9 per cent increase over 2015.
The Central Bank says when the forecast change in the consumer price index for December is taken into account, the real growth in currency for the period was 13.8 per cent.
This is much higher than the real growth of 7.6 per cent for the similar period of 2015.
