The Police in Westmoreland are searching for a man who attempted to rob an off-duty policeman and other passengers in a taxi in the parish.

The police say on Wednesday night the off duty cop was among three passengers in the taxi travelling along the Grange Hill main road from Negril.

They say one of the passengers pulled a firearm and ordered the taxi driver to divert onto Mint Road.

The police say the off-duty cop intervened and a struggle ensued between him and the gunman.

The police say a semi-automatic pistol with one round of ammunition was taken from the gunman.

However, the gunman managed to escape.
