A Manchester woman has been admitted to  hospital in serious condition after she was this morning stabbed in the chest at her home in the Blue Mountain community allegedly by a man with whom she recently ended a relationship.

Blue Mountain is located north east of the capital Mandeville near Williamsfield.

It's reported that the woman who is 28 years old was at home when she was attacked by the man sometime before daybreak.

During the attack, the woman raised an alarm and a male rushed to her assistance.

Residents say he too was attacked by the man, a fruit vendor who works in Mandeville.

The attacker later fled.

Angry residents have since been hunting for him.

Amid the search, they smashed his car and were about to set it on fire this morning but were stopped by the police.

In recent weeks there has been a spate of violent attacks of women that have left four dead.
