Police Service Commission starts search for new Commish
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has started its search for a new Commissioner of Police.
The PSC has issued a public notice seeking applicants to fill the post when current commissioner Dr Carl Williams leaves office this Friday.
The Commission says it is seeking suitable candidates from within or outside the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
Applications for the post of police commissioner close on Monday, January 23.
Williams is proceeding on early retirement.
He was appointed Commissioner in September 2014 after his predecessor Owen Ellington also opted for early retirement.
He indicated to the Commission that his decision to step down as police chief was based on personal reasons.
The outgoing police commissioner has said he was not forced to resign and that he decided to leave on his own.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Novlette Grant, who has expressed an interest in the job, is to act as police commissioner for 90 days beginning on January 7.
