Justice of the Peace Dr Patricia Holness today used the 12th staging of the 'Heal the Family, Heal the Nation Conference' to declare war against what she described as the evil that continues to plague the society.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller,  Justice Minister Delroy Chuck and Attorney General Marlene Malahoo Forte were among officials in attendance at the event at the National Arena in Kingston.

Dr Holness, a former head of the Registrar General's Department, urged citizens not to uphold unrighteousness and wrongdoing.

She said although Jamaica is celebrating 55 years of independence this year, it continues to struggle with some "deep-seated" issues.

"So we war against the scammers, we war against those persons who are in the body of Christ who have not been upholding the standards and we war against those persons who continue to do everything in their power to destroy the moral fabric of the society," she said.
