Greater Portmore councillor Michael Edwards dies

The People's National Party (PNP) councillor for the Greater Portmore Division in the St Catherine Parish Council Michael 'Fisher' Edwards has died.

Fisher is reported to have died from a stroke some time around 3 o'clock this morning.

Member of Parliament for St Catherine Southern Fitz Jackson says following a full day of work yesterday, Fisher was found unconscious at home and was rushed to the Spanish Town hospital by his family.

Jackson said Fisher was hypertensive and diabetic and underwent a brain surgery a few years ago.

However, he said Fisher showed no signs of illness up to the time of his death.

The PNP has also issued a statement saying it is saddened by Edwards' passing.

"The PNP and the people of Greater Portmore North have lost a hard worker who was committed to the people he served and the Party," said president Portia Simpson Miller.

Mayor of Portmore, Leon Thomas also lauded Edwards as “a very good councillor and a good committee chairman who always went the extra mile for the people of Portmore."

Fisher who has served more than two terms as councillor is survived by his wife, Sophia, and children.

Had been serving as the Councillor of the Greater Portmore North Division from 2007.
Served as Chairman for the Planning, Development and Climate Change Committee in the Portmore Municipal Council
Served as Chairman of the Finance Committee at the St Catherine Parish Council.
