Gov't to set up justice centres across all parishes
The government is looking to establish what it describes as justice centres in all parishes.
Justice Minister Delroy Chuck says the centres will be used to provide training for Justices of the Peace (JPs) in the areas of restorative justice, mediation and child diversion.
He says the objective is to better enable JPs to peacefully resolve conflicts outside of the court system and promote harmony in communities.
Chuck made the announcement following a meeting with custodes at his Constant Spring Road offices last Wednesday.
He say the justice centres will also serve as office spaces for the custodes, who represent the governor-general at the parish level.
Up to December last year, the justice ministry said it had received just under 1,500 applications from persons offering to serve as JPs.
