The Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) will kick-start the first round of its annual Festival of the Performing Arts competition on Monday with parish auditions.

JCDC, an agency of the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, says it is aiming to continue creating opportunities for Jamaicans in arts development, as it unearths, develops, showcases, preserves and promotes the creative talents and expressions of the Jamaican people.

The audition round will be held across the island, and will see persons participating in the areas of dance, drama, music, speech and traditional folk forms.

The competition is open to individual performers, schools, community groups, youth clubs, social clubs, performing arts clubs, churches as well as private and public sector groups.

JCDC says persons interested in participating, may still do so as entries are still being accepted and will be accepted on spot at the auditions.

Interested persons can get more details of the auditions on the JCDC website: where entry forms, rules and guidelines are also available.

Information can also be obtained from the JCDC Head Office at 3-5 Phoenix Avenue, Kingston 10 or any parish office.
