Information Minister Ruel Reid has announced that Government has allocated $195 million to carry out urgent repairs to roads in St Thomas.

Reid says the money for the repairs will be available once the supplementary estimates now being considered by the Parliament are approved.

The road network in the parish was severely damaged during heavy rains in May last year.

At the start of the new school term on Monday, scores of students were forced to walk after taxi operators in Port Morant mounted roadblocks to demonstrate the poor road conditions.

Taxi operators also mounted several protests last year in relation to the poor road conditions.
