Residents, stakeholders call for peace in August Town walk-through
Residents and stakeholders of August Town, St Andrew, this morning held a walk-through in the community as they called for peace following yesterday’s gun attack in the community, which left a man dead.
The death of 25-year-old Damian Lewis is the first murder in the usually volatile community in more than 12 months.
This morning, residents held a devotion at the spot where he was killed.
The gathering included representatives from the Peace Management Initiative, the Sizzla Kalonji Youth Foundation and the police among others.
The August Town Police say they are questioning a woman in connection with the attack.
Addressing the gathering, sub-officer at the August Town Police Station, Inspector Stephen Taylor, appealed to residents with information to come forward.
The police say Lewis, who resided in downtown Kingston, was visiting the woman, who lives in the Bedward Crescent area of August Town when he was attacked by men armed with guns.
He was shot in the forehead and neck.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for the St Andrew Eastern Constituency, Fayval Williams, urged the residents not to be daunted in the crime fight.
