The Rev Dr Burchell Taylor, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Half-Way Tree, St Andrew, has been confirmed as the new speaker for the 37th National Leadership Prayer Breakfast (NLPB) scheduled for Thursday at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel.

The chairman of the NLPB Committee, the Reverend Dr Stevenson Samuels, said that Taylor will replace Bishop Stanley Clarke of the Moravian Church, who was originally slated to be guest speaker. Clarke withdrew from the event amid a deepening sex scandal rocking the Moravian denomination.

"He is a statesman of the Christian Church and he's highly regarded and respected within the Christian community by basically all denominations. He is regarded as one of the best theologians of the Caribbean and a great thinker, and so we feel he has the capacity to represent the theme well at such short notice," Samuels said of Taylor, who was the speaker at the very first NLPB held in January 1981.
