Head of the Area Four police, Assistant Commissioner Devon Watkis, is bemoaning the social conditions that some police personnel have to endure in Western Kingston.

There has been increased police presence in West Kingston since last year amid ongoing violence stemming from gang conflict in the area.

Assistant Commissioner Watkis says in some areas water and sewage flow on streets and in communities where police personnel work.

He says improper garbage disposal in some communities is also a problem for police in West Kingston.

Watkis says the police have contacted the relevant government agencies to deal with the issues affecting the officers.

He says the National Water Commission has already fixed some broken mains to stop the flow of water on streets in certain areas.

However, he says the overall issue of improving the social conditions for police personnel in West Kingston needs comprehensive review.
