Spanish hotelier Excellence Group Luxury Hotels is to invest US$110 million to construct an adults-only resort at Oyster Bay in Trelawny.

A media release from the group says groundbreaking on the 325-suite luxury resort will be done in February, with completion set for the first half of 2018.

Renowned for their award-winning resorts in the Caribbean, this is Excellence’s first Jamaican resort.

Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett says it will add significant value to the stock of high-end offerings of Jamaica’s accommodation sector.

Located 30 minutes from the Sangster International Airport, the Oyster Bay hotel will include 800 square feet of junior suites and 2,000 square-foot sprawling upper suites.

The group expects to create approximately 2,000 jobs during its construction phase and an additional 660 jobs when the hotel begins operation.
