Passers-by gather near Flat Bridge after the Toyota Camry was pulled this morning from the Rio Cobre in St Catherine.

A body was fished from the Rio Cobre in the Bog Walk Gorge in St Catherine this morning after a Toyota Camry motor car plunged into the river.

Deputy Superintendent at the Jamaica Fire Brigade's, St Catherine division, James Lee, says the Spanish Town station received a call about 8:19 a.m.

He said a team was dispatched and the motor car found completely submerged when they arrived. A wrecker and divers were called in to remove the vehicle from the river.

The body of the driver, who was the sole occupant, was still inside the vehicle when it was removed from the river. It was strapped in by the seatbelt.

The identity of the person is yet to be confirmed.
