Final day to apply for police commissioner post

Today is the final day for persons to apply to become the new police commissioner.

The post became vacant after Dr Carl Williams stepped down as commissioner early this month.

The Police Service Commission says it is seeking suitable candidates from within or outside the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

The National Security Minister Robert Montague has announced that the next police commissioner will be employed under a contract with specific performance targets.

He also said the next police commissioner must come to the job with his or her own plan to tackle the country's crime situation.

The acting commissioner Novelette Grant is among those hoping to be selected for the post.
