UPDATED: Committee reviewing Sexual Offences Act invites public submissions
The parliamentary committee set up to review the Sexual Offences Act and related laws is inviting members of the public to make recommendations to it.
The Joint Select Committee will be examining the Sexual Offences Act, the Offences Against the Person Act, the Domestic Violence Act and the Child Care and Protection Act.
It says the written submissions from the public will aid its deliberations.
Submissions are to be sent by Tuesday, February 28 to the Clerk to the Houses of Parliament at Gordon House in Kingston.
They can also be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The committee says persons who make written submissions may be required to appear before the committee at short notice to explain their submission.
The committee was recently reconstituted following a string of murders of women, allegedly by their partners.
It also comes amid the sex scandal in which Moravian pastor, Rupert Clarke, and other members of the Church have been implicated.
Note: Earlier, this story had said the submissions from the public are to be made by next week Tuesday. That was incorrect. The submissions are in fact expected to be made by Tuesday, February 28.
