90 per cent of murders since January committed with a gun – police stats
Police statistics show that guns were used to commit 90 per cent of the murders recorded since the start of this year.
The data was obtained from the Jamaica Constabulary Force Periodic Serious and Violent Crimes Review and covers the period January 1 to 21 this year.
It shows that the gun was responsible for 74 of the 82 crimes recorded so far.
The gun was also the main weapon used to commit murders for the corresponding period last year.
Since the start of the year, the knife was the second deadliest weapon used to commit almost five per cent of the murders this month.

Last week, National Security minister Robert Montague signed a memorandum of Understanding with the Jamaica Customs Agency to tighten Jamaica's security along Jamaica's coastlines to stem the flow of guns and drugs into the island.
