Mayor of Kingston Delroy Williams says the Corporation will be seeking to increase building fees in the next financial year.

Williams told The Gleaner that compared with other local authorities, Kingston has the lowest building fees.

He said the municipal corporation charges $66 per square foot while other parishes charge almost $200 per square foot.

According to Williams, the corporation’s building and planning department is leading a review to determine a reasonable increase.

He says, however, that the proposal still has to go through consultations with the Local Government Minister and the business community

The Kingston mayor says the corporation is looking at introducing paid-parking in the Corporate Area.

He says the system would reduce hassle for the city, improve the treatment of driver and increase parking spaces especially in the downtown district.
