Not all cops are corrupt – Security Minister

Published:Friday | January 27, 2017 | 12:20 PM

National Security Minister Robert Montague says contrary to popular rhetoric the vast majority of cops are role models and it’s time to end the wholesale depiction of them as corrupt.

He says there are thousands of members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force who have served Jamaica for years without ever taking a bribe or participating in wrongdoing.

While acknowledging that there are corrupt cops in the force, Montague says it’s a similar story for every group of professionals, including those in the church.

He says the Force is taking decisive steps to rid itself of corrupt members.

However, Montague insists most cops are exemplary citizens.

Montague says since becoming national security minister, he has gained even more confidence that the Force can succeed in curbing crime.

He says this confidence is based on the attitude being displayed by police personnel.
