A Hanover motorist is now in hospital under police guard after he was shot when he attempted to mow down three policemen. One policeman was injured.

The police say about 5:45 p.m. yesterday, the motorist, who is from Green Island, Hanover, was observed driving a Toyota Corolla in a careless and reckless manner in Hopewell. He was signalled to stop by a constable, but disobeyed and hit the policeman with his motorcar.

He was chased by the police who sent an emergency alert to have the vehicle intercepted.

A unit from the St James Division responded and a vehicular check point was setup along the Bogue main road.

The police say the driver again disobeyed a signal to stop and attempted to hit the officer. He proceeded to run over a second officer who shot him.

The police say the motor vehicle was not insured and that its fitness had expired. They say the driver will be questioned in the presence of his attorney and then charged.
