A taxi driver in Old Harbour, St Catherine was today sentenced to 25 years in prison for abduction and rape.

Twenty-nine-year-old labourer Loveroy Henry was sentenced in the St Catherine Parish Court to seven years for abduction and 18 years for rape.

The St Catherine Parish Court heard that in 2013, the complainant who was 17 years old, was travelling in Henry's taxi when he drove off the route to a secluded area.

He reportedly forced her to have sex with him.

He then took her to her home where the girl reported the ordeal to relatives.

A report was made to the police and an investigation launched by the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse.

This resulted in Henry being charged with rape and forcible abduction.

On January 19, 2017, he was found guilty in a unanimous guilty verdict handed down by the jury.
