Deadline for Hampton School board to submit report to Education Ministry
Today is the deadline for the Hampton School board to submit a full report to the Education Minister on its deliberations concerning the recent actions of principal Heather Murray.
Murray has come under fire for attending the court hearing for a Moravian minister charged with having sex with a 15-year-old girl.
Education Minister Ruel Reid had said he would comment on the issue after receiving the report.
Last night the chairman of the Hampton School Board, Trevor Blake, refused to say whether the report has been completed or submitted.
The Hampton principal came under fire after she attempted to block Gleaner photographers from taking the pastor's picture while at his court hearing.
She then explained that the pastor's wife was her friend and that she went to the court hearing to support her.
The pastor's wife did not attend the hearing.
Murray was later sent on leave by the education ministry following mounting public backlash.
However, her attorney, Andre Earle denied that she agreed to apply for two weeks’ leave.
Earle said Murray had no need or desire to proceed on any leave and would therefore continue her normal duties as principal.
The school board also released a statement backing up that position.
