The St James police say they expect to lay charges soon in connection with the murder of a 15-year-old Green Pond High School student Shineka Gray.

The police have reserved comment on their probe saying they don't want to jeopardise the investigations.

However, they say the investigations have intensified.

The body of the grade-10 student with multiple stab wounds was found in bushes in the community of Barnett River, St James on Wednesday, three days after she went missing.

Yesterday, the police detained a 27-year-old suspect in relation to the murder.

They say the suspect who is from Hanover is currently before the court on a murder charge.

Shineka was last seen in Montego Bay on Sunday by a friend who had accompanied her to her taxi stand where she was expected to board a car to return to her mother who lives in Bogue.

She was on route from the funeral of a student at her school.
