The police say the suspect held in connection with the murder of a 15-year-old girl in St James is currently before the court on a murder charge.

The body of grade-10 student Shineka Gray was found in bushes in the community of Barnett River, St James yesterday, three days after she went missing.

The body reportedly had multiple stab wounds.

Head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force's Corporate Communications Unit, Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, says the suspect is a 27-year-old man from Hanover.

She says he was recently granted bail in relation to a murder in that parish.

Yesterday, classes were suspended at the Green Pond High School in St James as overwhelmed teachers and students mourned the murder of the 15-year-old.

Shineka was last seen in Montego Bay on Sunday by a friend who had accompanied her to her taxi stand where she was expected to board a car to return to her mother who lives in Bogue.

She was returning from the funeral of a student at her school.
