The police say two men were shot and killed last night after they opened fire on a police patrol along Marcus Garvey Drive, in Kingston.

Up to news time police investigators were still trying to determine their identities.

Head of the JCF's Corporate Communications Unit Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay says a 12-gauge shotgun was recovered at the scene.

It's reported that a police team was driving along Marcus Garvey Drive when they signalled the driver of a Nissan motorcar to stop.

The police say a group of men travelling in the vehicle opened fire at the lawmen and an exchange of gunfire ensued.

When the shooting ended the police say two men were found suffering from gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The driver of the car reportedly escaped.
