Scores of Comrades are travelling to the Hatfield Primary and Junior High School in Manchester today for the most anticipated announcement from Portia Simpson Miller since she announced the date for the last general election.

On February 1, 2016, Simpson Miller announced that on February 25, Jamaicans would return to the polls for an election that her party went on to lose, signalling the end of her tenure as prime minister.

Today, Simpson Miller is expected to use the stage at a meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the People's National Party (PNP) to announce the date she will walk away from the post of president, which she has held for more than 10 years.

Since her December 2015 announcement to the NEC, that she would not be offering herself for the party's top job come September, Simpson Miller has kept Comrades waiting for her to disclose her timetable to leave.
