Police intensifying investigation into case of body found in barrel

The St Thomas police say initial evidence suggests that a body found stuffed in a barrel yesterday may be that of the Burger King employee who was reported missing last week.

The woman's body was found in the community of Ramble.

Crime Chief for the St Thomas police Detective Inspector Leighton Blackstock says clothes and other items at the scene indicate it could be the Burger King employee.

However, he says the police are awaiting more information to positively identify the body.

Reports are that a passersby spotted the barrel in a gully around midday yesterday and alerted the police.

It is believed that the woman may have been killed elsewhere and the body dumped.

Police say the woman's body is of brown complexion and appears to be in the 30s.

The police say a wire was found around her neck and her hands were bound behind her back.

It is believed she was strangled.
