Broken water main along Mandela Highway repaired

Traffic was brought to a crawl yesterday on Mandela Highway after a water main broke.

The National Water Commission (NWC) says it has repaired the broken water main which disrupted traffic along the Mandela Highway in St Catherine.

Yesterday, the broken main caused the closure of one of the eastbound lanes leading to Kingston and also disrupted water supply to several communities in St Catherine and Kingston and St Andrew.

NWC Corporate Public Relations Manager, Charles Buchanan, says the repairs were completed around 8 o'clock this morning.

He says the communities that were affected should have regular water supply during the course of today.

Meanwhile, the National Works Agency (NWA) says it is now repairing the road surface where the broken main was replaced this morning.

NWA Communication Manager Stephen Shaw says motorists should continue to exercise caution along the Mandela Highway.
