Education Minister to meet with Hampton Board on February 18

Education Minister Senator Ruel Reid is to meet with the Board of Hampton School for Girls on February 18 to discuss a report concerning the recent actions of principal Heather Murray.

The Ministry says Senator Reid is reviewing the report which was submitted on Friday.

It says he is also reviewing a second report submitted by Murray through her attorney.

The Hampton principal has come under fire for attending the court hearing for a Moravian minister charged with having sex with a 15-year-old girl.

Murray was criticised after she attempted to block Gleaner photographers from taking the pastor's picture while at his court hearing.

She then explained that the pastor's wife was her friend and that she went to the court hearing to support her.

The pastor's wife did not attend the hearing.

Murray was later sent on leave by the education ministry following mounting public backlash.

However, her attorney, Andre Earle, denied that she agreed to apply for two weeks’ leave.

The school board also released a statement backing up that position.
