The South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) says a maintenance team is currently conducting an assessment of the damage from a minor fire at the dental department of the St Jago Park Health Centre in St Catherine.

SERHA says it’s grateful for the quick action of staff members in bringing the fire under control and the evacuation of patients.

The authority says preliminary reports indicate that the fire occurred at 10:30 yesterday morning and was immediately contained by members of staff who used fire extinguishers.

SERHA says one member of staff was treated for smoke inhalation.

It says dental services at the health centre have been temporarily relocated.

The authority says dental patients can access services at the Bridgeport, Sydenham, Sligoville, Old Harbour, Bog Walk and Linstead health centres, also in St Catherine.

The agency says the dental staff from the St Jago Park Health Centre have been redeployed to these health centres to assist with the expected increase in patient load.
