Future disruptions along Mandela Highway likely

Motorists who use the Mandela Highway in St Catherine are being warned that they are likely to experience further disruptions from broken mains as road works continue in the area.

Mandela Highway is currently being upgraded under the Major Infrastructure Improvement Project.

Last week, road works resulted in a broken main in the Ferry area forcing the closure of one of the lanes leading to Kingston.

It also caused disruption of water supply to several communities in St Catherine and Kingston and St Andrew.

Senior public relations officer at the National Water Commission Karen Williams says motorists and communities should note that future disruptions cannot be avoided.

However, she says the NWC will work to replace any broken mains along the highway in the shortest possible time.

Williams says the major pipelines along Mandela Highway are set to be replaced.

However, she says this cannot be done until the National Works Agency has completed its work.
