Reported cases of rape, aggravated assault of women declining – police
Data from the police show that reported cases of rape and aggravated assault of women so far this year are on the decline.
The police say between January 1 and February 10 there were 33 reported cases of rape compared to 73 for the same period last year.
Also, there were 46 reported cases of aggravated assault, 11 fewer than the same period last year.
The number of rape and aggravated assault cases so far this year are also the lowest figures recorded for both crimes in the last five years.
There has been much public discourse about rape and the sexual assault of women and girls in light of a spike in reports of females being abducted and raped by men posing as taxi operators.
