These two vehicles collided on the Martha Brae to Falmouth main road this morning. Eight persons, including six children, were injured.

Nine of the ten children who were hospitalised following a two-vehicle collision along the Martha Brae to Falmouth main road in Trelawny this morning have been transferred to the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St James.

The tenth child has been transferred to the Bustamante Hospital For Children in Kingston.

The police say the injured children are between the ages three and nine.

Head of the police highway and traffic division Senior Superintendent Calvin Allen says the two drivers involved in the accident were also transferred to the Cornwall Regional Hospital.

The crash happened about 8 o'clock this morning.

It’s reported that a Toyota Camry motorcar with school children aboard was travelling towards Falmouth when it collided with a Toyota Axio motorcar going in the opposite direction.

The Axio overturned on impact.

The other car was also badly damaged.

One of the drivers was trapped in the vehicle and had to be cut from the car by fire personnel.

Superintendent Allen says the collision occurred because the driver of the Toyota Axio failed to stay in his lane.

Allen also says the Toyota Camry is not registered as a public passenger vehicle.
