Traffic had to be diverted from the Spanish Town Bypass in St Catherine this morning as angry residents of March Pen Road and other communities mounted roadblocks along sections of the busy thoroughfare to protest the shooting death of a man by the police last night.

The upset residents lit debris and used it to block the road.

The roadblocks were cleared by police personnel who continue to maintain a strong presence in the area.

The dead man is yet to be identified.

According to the police, a team was on patrol in the March Pen Road community when the unidentified man opened fire.

They say the fire was returned and the man was shot.

However, residents have disputed the events of the shooting and are claiming that the man was shot in cold blood.

The incident is being probed by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
