Protesting bus operators leave several stranded in St Thomas

Several persons including students in St Thomas were left stranded this morning after bus operators on the Morant Bay to Kingston route withdrew their services.

The operators are upset about poor road conditions which they say is costing them thousands of dollars to repair their vehicles often.

They have also raised concerns about competition from illegal operators who are eating away their revenues.

Another major issue is what they say is the heavy-handed licensing requirement for public passenger operators.

One protesting bus driver, Jermaine Harding, told our news centre that St Thomas bus operators are frustrated that their concerns have not been addressed.

The St Thomas operators have called for the intervention of Transport Minister, Mike Henry.
